Attendance
A. Regular attendance is necessary in order to achieve the most from our educational system. An “excused absence” is a day or fraction of a day missed by the student in which the student will be allowed to make up the work missed and receive full credit for that work if make up within the time equal to the time missed. Excused absences are as follows:
(1) Personal illness or injury
(2) Illness or death in immediate family
(3) Organized agricultural activities outside the school curriculum (4-H, etc.)
(4) Doctor or dental appointments (These should be limited to a fraction of the school day. Late afternoon is usually best.)
(5) Personal or family situation deemed by the principal to be in the nature of an emergency.

B. An “unexcused absence shall be listed for all reasons of non-attendance other than those listed above. Shopping trips, visits, and other activities of personal enjoyment of family convenience, even though approved by the parents, shall not be considered emergencies for the purpose of establishing excused absences beyond the regular teaching program. No credit will be given for any unexcused absences. No more than two unexcused absences will be allowed. Any more than two may result in loss of credit.

C. A student missing more than ten school days during the semester, regardless of the reason, may be asked to appear before the school board with their parents or guardian before credit for that semester will be given. At this meeting students and parents must be prepared to validate the reasons for being absent from school on the specific dates. If the student and parent are unable to substantiate valid reasons for the absence, the student may suffer the loss of credit or may be made to make up the days on Saturday or during vacations. Exceptions which may be approved include excessive illness (substantiated by a statement from a doctor), supporting a family or schools involved in an approved experimental project.

D. More specific board guidelines for attendance are stated in the student handbook.
